QUESTION
If exporting from QuickBooks Desktop using Rightworks Transaction Pro Exporter and then importing the data back into a QuickBooks Online company file, all of the column names do not match exactly. Are there pre-defined maps that can be used for the process?
RESOLUTION
When the data is exported from QuickBooks Desktop using TPro Exporter, some of the column names do not match the field names on the mapping window of TPro Importer for QuickBooks Online. However, Transaction Pro has created these maps in order to save time and minimize the chance of missed fields.

Some things to keep in mind when importing data into QuickBooks Online that has originally come from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT):
- QBDT does not have Locations. Therefore, if Locations are needed, they will need to be added to the import file manually or updated in QuickBooks Online after imported.
- QuickBooks Online does not have Unit of Measures. Therefore, keep this in mind when importing any transactions that contain Inventory Products.
- QuickBooks Online does not have Sites, Bins, or Barcodes for Inventory. Therefore, these will not import into QuickBooks Online.
- Some QBDT lists and transactions allow up to five address lines. QuickBooks Online only allows four address lines. Therefore, the fifth line will not be imported.
- Custom fields for Vendors, Customers, Employees, or Items in QBDT will not import into QuickBooks Online as it does not have this feature.
- QuickBooks Online does not have Assembly Item types. They will need to be entered as Groups. At this time, Groups is not a Product/Service type that TPro can import into QuickBooks Online.
- QuickBooks Online Customers and Vendors do not have fields for contact details..
- Transfers in QuickBooks Online do not have a Class field. Therefore, this data from QBDT will not import.
- If using multi-currency in QBDT previously and multi-currency will be used in QuickBooks Online, these fields will need to mapped manually once the pre-defined map is uploaded into TPro.
- For sales transactions, the Shipping, Discount, and Tax data is not included in the pre-defined maps and will need to be manually added.
- Sales tax amount will not import if on auto sales tax calculation in QuickBooks Online.
- Not all fields in QBDT are available in QuickBooks Online. Check each pre-defined map to see if any fields are missing as well as comparing the import files to the map to see which data will not import.
- When importing Journal Entries, the Debits and Credits will need to be in single column with Debits as positive amounts and Credits as negative amounts.
- When importing Bill Payments, the Bank Account and Credit Card Account information will need to be combined into a single column.
- On transactions, if receiving errors about detail line dollar amounts, change mapping to import either quantity and cost/price or quantity and amount.
- Job information cannot be imported into QuickBooks Online with TPro at this time.
- Sales orders is not a transaction type available in QuickBooks Online. The options are to either not import the data or import the data as an Invoice.
- Item Receipts is not a transaction type available in QuickBooks Online. It is suggested to import the receipt data and corresponding bill data as a Bill.
