QUESTION

Does Rightworks Transaction Pro need to be installed on a Desktop or on a Server?

RESOLUTION

Previously, Rightworks Transaction Pro for QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) was sold in a Desktop Edition and a Server Edition. As of June 2019, all desktop purchases consist of a Server Edition of Transaction Pro that can be installed on either one Desktop or one Server.

The below information will help to determine if Transaction Pro is being installed at the correct location. A trial version is available for testing prior purchase. For more information or for additional questions, please contact [email protected].

Installed on a Desktop

  • Desktop Edition will run on a machine running the following Windows Operating Systems: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10.

  • The QBDT software needs to be installed on the same machine as the Transaction Pro product.

  • The QBDT company file does not need to reside on this machine. The company file can reside else where on the network or server. However, the QB software must be launched from the same machine on which the Transaction Pro product is loaded.

  • If installed on a Desktop, a license is needed for each computer that needs the Transaction Pro product. (NOTE: Multiple license discounts are available. Contact [email protected] for more information)

Installed on a Server

  • Users access QBDT by launching either a  remote or terminal services desktop.

  • If in a hosted environment and on a virtual server, the software should be installed on the virtual machine.

  • If in a hosted and shared environment, it will depend upon the hosting company.  Email the name of the hosting company to [email protected] to learn about options available.

  • To set up users to access Transaction Pro installed on a Server, please refer to this Knowledge Base ARTICLE.
